Cosmetic Dentistry » Teeth Whitening

At SW9 Dental we are proud to offer a range of cosmetic dental treatments to patients from Stockwell and beyond. Cosmetic dentistry involves a range of procedures designed to improve the appearance of your smile. One of the quickest and simplest cosmetic treatments available is teeth whitening.

Our teeth can become stained by food and drink, including coffee, tea and cola. Habits such as smoking also stain the teeth, while many people find their teeth lose their natural sheen over time. Teeth whitening treatment uses special teeth whitening gel to gently remove stains and give your teeth back a natural, bright whiteness.

Most adults are suitable for teeth whitening, although any dental health problems such as gum disease or decay should be treated first, while if you are considering additional cosmetic treatment such as white fillings or crowns you should consult with your dentist first, as whitening treatment does not work on fillings or artificial teeth. In that case it may be best to have teeth whitening treatment first, so that any fillings or replacement teeth can be matched to the new, brighter shade of your teeth after whitening.

At SW9 we offer two options for teeth whitening: home teeth whitening and in-practice teeth whitening. It is also possible to combine both options.

Home Teeth Whitening

We offer two teeth whitening systems; Boutique Whitening and Philips Zoom! Nitewhite, which comprises teeth whitening gels and specially-made whitening trays. The Boutique Whitening system is one of the only tooth whitening systems where you do not have to adjust your current diet, because it contains a special ingredient that actively prevents teeth staining throughout the treatment. Whereas, Philips Zoom! Nitewhite is a more affordable option which still gives you a noticeable whiter smile within 1-2 weeks.

You will need to visit the practice to be measured for your whitening trays, which are made to fit your mouth exactly. When the trays are ready, your dentist will show you how to use them. You should place a small amount of whitening gel in the trays and wear them overnight for the period your dentist prescribes – typically between two and three weeks.

In-Practice Teeth Whitening

At this current time, we no longer provide in practice whitening. From our patient’s feedback, patients tend to receive a better whitening result by first having a hygiene Scale & Polish with Air-flow then their home whitening treatment.
